I'm in a hotel in Baltimore trying not let the outside of my left arm touch anything.  I've now added a stack of books, a candle, a needle and thread to my sleeve.  And while I survived it with only the minimal flailing that happens involuntarily when someone is tattooing tendon, this one was rough, and not just because neither my shoulder nor my elbow really rotate they way they were being asked to.  Trying to take a pic with the tegaderm on is proving challenging but this time for real I'm going to post something when it heals.

I said something to Abundance about if bell book and candle is an exorcism, what is book, candle, thread for and he said something along the lines of "for stitching the broken pieces of ourselves together".

I always need people witnessing my tattoos to tell me how stoic I'm being.  I don't think it's that I need to be tougher than other people, just that I need some sort of praise at how well I control my outward appearance of pain (thanks dad) or something like that.

I'm also getting still more woo about my tattoos, sort of figuring out both how to breathe through it and sort of...intentionally inhabit the pain.  sure, there were a couple times where some of my visual metaphors went off the rails, I remember thinking distinctly "oh, that pain is like what happens when you startle an entire flock of birds into taking off".

Also, Emi agreed to do her interpretation of the beastie in the dorothea tanning painting!  so there's another tattoo to add to the list.  I also didn't get any ferns or the ocean in my ear today, but definitely ocean next time.   I'm wondering when I can book surgery and how long after surgery it will feel like it makes sense to be in a car for that long.  Or, do we take the train and rent a car because that seems a lot less exhausting than driving back down.

We did not go to the aquarium.  As expected, we got back to the hotel room, I whined about possibly being hungry until the boys guided me through the steps of figuring out what indian food I wanted, we ate and then I spent some time flopping around until I found a position I could comfortably rest my arm and we all passed out for hours.   Tomorrow we drive back and I start trying to plan both what we're going to do for food for the peter mulvey concert and what we're going to do for food for the feast day.
