"There is a crack in everything"
Jun. 22nd, 2014 06:41 pm Day Twelve
Today, I discovered the concept of kintsukuroi, and almost made me cry, not in a bad way, but in a relieved sort of way. Maybe this is the metaphor I can cling to, acknowledging the damage without needing to stay damaged. (and honestly, I was just going through this leonard cohen song, i didn't realize how perfectly it would line up
Funnyface died of starvation, her body lost the ability to absorb nutrients. To be fair, she died because we euthanized her, but we euthanized her because she was starving to death. This makes me extremely twitchy about any of the animals not eating, even though to be fair, all of them could probably afford to lose a little weight. This manifests in part in the fact that we now feed the four cats in four separate areas. Tanning in the back pantry, Brat in Light's room, Noisy in the kitchen and Frye on the dining room table. But Noisy howls like she's on fire if we leave her in the kitchen, so sometimes we crack under the strain and let her out before Frye's finished. But I have discovered an awesome way to get Frye to finish her kibble. if I chuck them at her, ever so slightly out of her reach, she will pounce, bat the kibble around and eat it. It's a little bit time consuming, but it's so gratifying and comforting and makes me smile every time.
Abundance stopped at our house for a couple hours before he flew out and I could taste the ocean on his skin. Seriously, I love this man more than I love ice cream. (sarah mclachlan reference unintentional but the sentiment stands)
