Bite me, Comcast. And then stand still so I can kick your shins until I feel better or get tired of kicking.

The technician came to visit today, and eventually determined the problem is that "the signal is weak coming into the house" and that it's not his purview, and customer service wouldn't be able to let us know when it was going to get fixed, but that it would take a long time because "They have to call digsafe and everything." And I know I'm silly, weak creature of habit, but I really do miss having a reliable internet connection, and I'm miffed at paying for a service I'm not actually reliably getting. Also, I miss playing WoW with Light.

On the plus side, seeing the 12:01 show of the new Harry Potter last night was awesome. Much to Light's surprise, as far as I can remember, I've never seen a midnight showing of anything, so never been given the opportunity to observe hardcore fans in their natural element.

Now I'm going to continue reading (while feeling ashamed for doing so) Cool Careers for Dummies to determine if there's something I actually want to do next. Feel free to throw out suggestions (please?), I'm entirely bewildered by the idea of choosing a career path, rather than just leaping upon the first available job that offers health insurance.

Library and Information Science.

We get to play with books and archives and museums and the internet all day. You know you want it.

One of my favorite professors of all time (Music History) made his career change decision based on "What Color is my Parachute". He admitted it sounded hokey, but it helped him move from working for opera companies into academia. He was one of the best professors I had at that school, so I'd take his word for it.

Library Science is totally awesome, but since I've only really worked in libraries and want my MLIS, I'm biased. I would suggest maybe volunteering locally to see if it's really the place for you (though the difference between public and academic libraries can be huge).

In the ideal world, what do you want in a job (general feelings, thoughts)? What do you absolutely not want?

Come visit me? We can make a short term career of hiking (limited by my torn ACL) and berry picking.
