Jun. 28th, 2007 03:51 pmThis one was interesting to think about. I full well acknowledge that my sixteen year old self probably wouldn't have been able to hear most of these things, but my sixteen year old self didn't hear much.
I wouldn't want to risk not ending up here, and I think most of the selfdestructive behaviors couldn't been rooted out, only ridden through, so most of these things are meant to bolster rather than change anything.
1. No matter what your mother says, it's not a phase. Well, almost none of it is.
2. Get the surgery. You'll have regrets, but not very many.
3. When she tells you "Sometimes people who need love the most, deserve it the least" try not to cry. No one who ever loved you in the first place would say that.
4. Read as much as you fucking want. Seriously.
5. College won't be magical, but part of it will be good and useful, and you'll survive the rest. And there's some pretty awesome stuff about ten years down the road, so just keep going.
6. It's all just as funny as you think it is. A sense of perspective is probably one of your greatest gifts/life preservers.
7. Don't worry so much about not being able to hack Chemistry. Later, you'll learn he really does have it out for you.
8. He doesn't not stick up for you because you're not worth sticking up for. He doesn't stick up for you because he's a wimp and an asshole.
9. Buy better bras.
10. Try to savor things. You'll forget a lot of the defeats, but some of the triumphs will get washed down the drain as well.
11. It's pretty much the shape your body will always be. Worry more about being healthy, and less about what shape you are.
12. Trust your instincts, but take them with a grain of salt.
