Feb. 3rd, 2013 09:33 pmToday, I will be grateful for things in my kitchen.
It sounds kind of dippy, but there are things in my kitchen that make my life so much easier, and make it so much more likely that I'll cook, and I'm in a better mood when I cook, and I feel more sure of myself, steadier, when I've made good things to eat.
1. I am grateful for Priscilla, my breast-cancer pink Kitchenaid Stand mixer, with the flame decals on it. (named for Priscilla, queen of the desert). Even though she's off kilter now, and I need to figure out how to get her fixed, she's made it possible for me to make cookies at the drop of a hat, and bread and whipped cream and cakes.
2. Sodastream, sodastream, sodastream. I feel so goddamn virtuous when I make my own sodas/seltzer water.
3. I'm grateful for our calphalon pot. At the time it seemed ludicrous to spend that much money on a pot, even if we were going to the wrentham outlets to get it. It is so, so very good at what it does.
4. I'm grateful for our stick blender and all the lovely soups it enables me to make, without scalding myself as I try to pour things into the blender.
5. I'm grateful for the simplicity of the citrus juicer. It makes me feel like I'm about to churn butter or some other pastoral pursuit, which can cheer me up even on bleak days. (not that I'm going around gratuitously juicing things.)
