omnia_mutanturbetter today.
yesterday, i put my autumn leaves gelgems up, and then we went to lilo and host's and carved pumpkins. light carved a black dragon, i carved a triple moon, host carved a strongbad face, and lilo carved the death of acteon (and i can't remember the proper name of the pot).
today woke up, put some laundry away, got bagels at brueggers, walked about the stalls that the brave souls who are still doing the farmers' market had up, bought the strange dense apple bar things. (imagine an apple pie crust, slatered with filling and then rolled up, so it's like twenty layers of piecrust with apples sandwiched between, topped in a sugary glaze). drove down to mystic, went to the aquarium. still in love with the beluga whales, and the amazon exhibit even had an amazon-at-night section with bats. and there were fish that it says when they are full grown can leap six feet into the air and eat baby monkeys.
ate okay pad thai at a place called rice spice noodles, accompanied by the best teaever. then across the street to a used bookstore with awesomely friendly orange cats, and i bought another copy of Housekeeping and a copy of I, Claudius 'cause it was the only one i remembered from the meme a little while back. then to the cemetary to visit tampa's grave, where i left him a couple shells from when i went out to visit mech and media, and i told him all about what they're up to and what i'm up to, and i cried a little, and then Light and i walked around. back to downtown mystic, in and out from all the cute shops without buying anything. and now we're home, and headed to the hot tubs in about an hour, and then tomorrow there will be the library, and the grocery store, and maybe Light will paint while I make cookies.
and for the random, disconnected statements part of the post, i think i'm going to cave and go buy a hat with earflaps this week, neat-looking hair be damned. and it's very weird to listen to Light talk to his parents. Particularly when he's talking about me and I'm sitting next to him on the couch. and on the cat front, Funnyface still doesn't like taking her antibiotics, but seems mostly recovered. and i'm never buying them toys again, since noisy has decided a jones bottle caps is the best thing ever and is carrying it around in her mouth and looking even more smug than she normally looks. (which is pretty smug, since, well, she's a cat.)
eta: apparently, light's family has garnered from my comments, filtered through light, that i think his sister's wedding is grotesquely overblown. (and yes, i think it's a little bit of a spectacle, but mostly i'm intimidated and confused rather than scornful. which doesn't seem to be the impression they've got) and just when i finally had started to calm down about what i was going to wear. i'm sure it'll all be fine, it's just one weekend out of my life, and while i liked what felt like their good opinion, if i've lived without my own parents', i can certainly live without someone else's parents'. at least i got one holiday where they liked me. and maybe it's not unrecoverable. just, gah.
