Mar. 1st, 2013 12:33 amI made these things for the first time in February: smoky corn risotto, peanutty rice with sweet potatoes, an uninspired cheesless gratin, chipotle chili with sweet potatoes and brussels sprouts, a boring zucchini casserole for Communit y Cooks and my favorite, a cake for Hips' birthday, a spice cake with brown butter frosting.
I read these books for the first time in February. The Steel Remains by Richard K. Morgan, continuing in the theme of 'I'll read it if there's a queer character'. Eittiquette & Espionage was a lighthearted YA romp, uncomplicated steampunk, a finishing school for spies. Mr. Penumbra's 24-hour Bookstore and Codex by Lev Grossman were of a piece, stories about magical books and magical bookstores. Sacrifice by SJ Bolton was reviewed by Chile and intrigued me, and was a murder mystery with a queer character, and was fairly interesting up until the part where it kind of lost its mind. Agent to the Stars by John Scalzi was adorable and well-written and Machine by Jennifer Pelland was amazing and thought provoking.
These things happened in February. I wrangled the volunteers for my work's 1500 or person turnout for the Gore lecture. Revisiting that space twice in the following three weeks, I also watched Eddie Izzard accept a humanist award, and attended a union rally. I went to Boskone, went to an awful panel, had a lovely dinner, listened to the aforementioned Jennifer Pelland read. I got my hair redyed deep purple, I made Delight and Mischief a moderately elaborate meal. I cooked yummy brownies for the treats for tits project, offensively bland zucchini casserole for Community Cooks, and donated a cross-stitch bookmark to Con or Bust. I saw Cory Doctorow speak, and Richard Shindell sing. I even saw Hansel and Gretel int he theater. Mech asked me to read at his wedding and Coolidge is gaining almost an ounce a day, and it looks like his release from the hospital could be coming along any day now.
