My mother tells me the key to being unemployed and not collapsing into a ball of self loathing is list making. She may be wrong, but I'm certainly going to try it out, since I still feel pretty much like I'm flailing nonstop.

In the listmaking vein, here's how I spent last week.

Monday took us to Arlington, Light for an interview, me to spend the day hanging out either with Junkyard or in Junkyard's living room while he was on a conference call, and then back here to hang out with my favorite exroommate.

Tuesday wasn't a much of anything day, though I did a bunch of prep work for Wednesday's dinner.

Wednesday was Transformers (whee!) and then J&S back for dinner and boardgames. The board game was World of Warcraft, which was lovely to play for the first time on our new table, but I think I'll probably argue against it in the future, because any one thing I spend six straight hours doing (other than sleep) had damn well better give me a glittery kitten that scoops its own litter at the end. The dinner was two kinds of pizza (I don't think it counts as pizza if it doesn't have tomato sauce, which these didn't) one topped with reduced balsamic vinegar, caramelized onions and goat cheese, the other with reduced balsamic vinegar, roasted garlic and Gruyere) and dessert was a cake I wasn't too proud of, but was topped with strawberries and our very first batch of ice cream.

Thursday was cleaning, packing, and a minibreakdown prompted by my mother asking me to not ask my little brother to come visit, because she and my father think he should focus all of his attention on getting a job. I caved only a little bit, saying I would not try to get him to come visit, but if he asked, I wasn't going to say no. A little more stilted conversation, and I hung up and burst into tears. There's a longstanding tradition in my family that my parents consider visiting me something my little brothers shouldn't spend any energy doing, and Mech's usually pretty good about ignoring them, but times when he might visit usually come when he's staying under their roof, so there's only so much ignoring he can do.

Due to the lovely conversation, which I am certain my mother relayed to my father verbatim, I was expecting more tension when we actually got to my parents house that night, since they were going to be driving us into Logan the next day. Blessedly, all we did was sit around and watch a terrifying game show about being smarter than a fifth grader and sleep.

Friday was traveling, and South Carolina, and a very sweet woman. The weekend was comprised of being warm and damp, a wedding celebration, seeing dolphins(porpoises?) and reading and knitting a lot. Traveling home was less than entirely fun, mostly because once we touched down in Logan, we had to sit in an unmoving and hence unairconditioned airplane for an hour before a gate was clear. Back to my parents house to see Mech for the first time since January, but was sadly too wiped to truly appreciate anything much less seeing him, and then back here to collapse.

More terrifying dreams last night, and now I'm here, trying to figure out what the perfect balance is of leaving the windows open to catch the morning cool breeze and shutting them so as not to roast as the day continues to heat up. Ah, the dilemmas I struggle with in order to keep from thinking about other things.
